The end of October

Life drawing, babies and landscapes.  The end of October is bringing lots of opportunities for mixed media and subjects from watercolor portraits to oil landscapes to pastel figure drawing.  The last figure drawing was done pretty much in the dark.  One of the students turned off the lights in the room except for the spotlight on the model.  I had to find my keyring flashlight to try to pick out a color from my box that might work.  I think it worked better than the ones in the light from earlier in the evening!

More jewelry!

I haven't been taking any pictures of the earrings I've been making and selling.  So here goes with my latest.  They are made of some odd bits of metal tubing, bike inner tube, beads, washers, plastic and in some cases with semi-precious stones.

I'm sure the style will change as I run out of materials but they have been fun to create.

In the heat of July

oil sketch Koi Pond

Koi Pond (oil)

Apples (pastel)
 Fennel  (pastel)
 Koi & Water Lilies (pastel)
Apples  (oil)

 Bridge at SMU (oil)
Charcoal portrait
I'm not sure why my pastel paintings seem so different from my oil paintings but they are.  Is it because pastel's include more "drawing" sometimes?  I love oil but it is much more of a struggle for me when doing landscapes or veggie/fruit-scapes!  Anyway I've been trying to do some of each this July and learning from it all.

It's June and figure drawing.....continues

These are just some sketches from June.  They range from 2 minutes to 40 min.  The weather this June in MN has been crazy.  It has gone from nearly 100 (using a fan on the model) to the 50's (heater at the ready)!

Minnesota Marine Art Museum
Thursday I taught a charcoal drawing class at the MMAM.  I had so much fun.  It is difficult to believe that some of the students said they had never done this before.  Everyone's work was fantastic!  I'm looking forward to teaching a children's workshop in August there.

Fringe Friday

The last Friday in April was Fringe Friday in Winona.  Music, food, art galleries open late, book lover's night and more music and live drawing at the Acoustic Cafe.  I drew for 2 hours.  First I drew my mother and then my friend Kate who drove to see the exhibit.  She was my photographer as well!  I don't have a picture of her sitting but do have her portrait.  It was fun to visit with everyone and try to keep drawing!

A great weekend!

More pictures from the reception.  Thank you Riaz!

I was and am so happy and appreciative of everyone who came to the reception, thank you all!
Last weekend was full of delightful times with my mother's 87th birthday on Saturday and my first artist reception on Sunday.  87 looks amazing on my mother.  If you don't believe me, look at her picture!

Also a GIANT THANK YOU to all of my wonderful long time & new friends & my incredible family who came from far and near to my exhibit reception at the Acoustic Cafe. I feel so humbled and grateful for the presence of so many people and their support.  Patrick got a couple of pictures but hopefully someone else got better ones!

My mother at 87!
